Empire Finale Will Be Full of Fan-Fare

Don’t Miss Fan Appreciation Tonight at Court 17!

Tonight, the New York Empire take on the first place Philadelphia Freedoms in the last match of the regular season. The Freedoms clinched the top-seed in the WTT Finals, presented by GEICO, earlier this week and currently own a 12-1 record.

The Freedoms defeated the Empire Wednesday in Philadelphia, but tonight Neal Skupski and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez will attempt to upset the top seed in New York. Skupski and Martinez Sanchez are one of the best mixed doubles teams in the league. They’ll be joined by Empire roster player Dennis Novikov and Canadian Fed Cup veteran Francoise Abanda, who was brought on board this Wednesday as a substitute for Tatjana Maria.

The match will be full of fanfare, from start to finish. The Empire finale has been designated Fan Appreciation Night. As a special thank you to fans, the first 500 patrons in attendance will receive a free New York Empire water bottle and wallet phone case.

In addition to WTT co-founder Billie Jean King and former WTT commissioner Ilana Kloss, Olympic figure skaters Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje will also be in attendance. Weaver and Poje represented Canada in the 2014 and 2018 Olympics in the ice dance competition. The pair are also three-time World medalists, two-time Four Continents champions, two-time Grand Prix Final champions, and two-time Canadian National champions.
